I think God answered me on my iphone. I know this sounds funny, but God does have a sense of humor. I woke up this Sabbath morning wanting more — more peace from the Lord. While still in bed, I grabbed my laptop and opened up Isaiah explained because I remembered that there was something in there about if you keep the Sabbath day, God answers your prayers more quickly.
I began reading aloud to my husband,
One of the gravest transgressions with which the servant confronts Jehovah’s people is their desecration of the Sabbath. (Isaiah 58 commentary)
All of a sudden, my iphone which was on the nightstand next to me, began to speak to me — “checking on that, desecration ….” I don’t know why the siri app on my iphone began searching. But I picked it up and looked at it — it said,
“desecration is desanctification.”
I was surprised that it came up with something religious and that it can be applied to the Sabbath. (And I was a little surprised how God answered my need to hear Him — what a strange way to communicate with me.)
I’ve been guilty of desecration when I do things on the Sabbath that are not sanctifying. Sanctification is a big word with a lot of meaning. I know that “to sanctify” means “to make sacred.”
It seems so simple, keeping the Sabbath, yet it’s not. Read the news? Watch sports? Do a load of laundry? Make a big meal? Study? Walk in nature? Sleep? Â Maybe I need to look at ways that sanctify — which covers a lot of things. How are my actions today, sanctifying? What’s odd is that trials are sanctifying. (Pray that your afflictions may be consecrated for your gain.)
Nevertheless, Jacob, my firstborn in the wilderness, thou knowest the greatness of God; and he shall consecrate thine afflictions for thy gain. (2 Nephi 2:2)
I wasn’t searching for the meaning of desecration. I was wanting to hear God’s voice and direction in my life more often. And more clearly —Â unmistakable. I realize that through all life’s difficulties, the only thing that brings me peace is knowing that God is in the details of my life.
Just two days ago, God answered my prayers on the Dennis Prager show, during the happiness hour when a young woman called the show and shared her experiences. My son and I were driving to get donuts for breakfast, and I flicked on the radio to catch the talk radio show. It has been awhile since I’ve heard Dennis. What’s even more miraculous is that my husband at home heard the show, and my son, driving with me. Two people for whom the message was also needed.
Bring your desires to the Lord, either in thoughts or prayers. He will let you know that He is there, through miraculous means.
