If you haven’t seen these classic, the Thin Man movies from the 1930’s, you’re missing some of the great laughs in film. They star William Powell and Myrna Loy as a husband and wife detective team with their animated little dog, “Asta.” The comedy is classic and clean. And the rapport between husband and wife is uplifting. And fun. We should all have this much fun with our spouse, even though we can’t be detectives.
Here is one clip after the team (Nick, Nora and Asta) return home after a bit of an absence. Asta, the dog is happy to be home as well, and check up on “Mrs. Asta”.
This is the 1930’s so they do celebrate with a cocktail — it was very much part of the norm back then. But it does make for some funny scenes with Nick. On Christmas morning, Nick takes a shot in the first Thin Man.
