I remember when hot rollers first came out. It was a big deal. Because back in the 60s, girls slept in hair rollers. I remember, because I was one of those girls. It was like sleeping on rocks — just so you had curls the next day.
Finally, I started pulling my hair up into a pony tail on the top of my head, and then rolling my hair — that way I could sleep better, my head actually hit the pillow.
They were called magnetic rollers and they were smooth, but you had to use bobby pins to hold them in place, which could leave a dent.
Then the hot rollers hit the scene. They were plastic with little pokey nibs on them. And you had to hold them in place with a ‘U” shaped wire. In high school I had to get up early for LDS seminary, and the hot rollers were my new best friend. All the girls used them and if you didn’t place the rollers in correctly, or you crimped the ends of your hair, it could leave tell-tale dents in your hair.
I haven’t used a hot roller since high school. I thought they went out of fashion. My daughter is a stylist, and I never see her use them. She always uses a blow dryer. But then I saw this video and I thought — they’re back. Or maybe they never left, just got better. I kind of want to give it a try. I wish I still had my youthful look though.
