My daughter called, asking my opinion about preschool for her 2 1/2 year old.
We never did preschool with my five kids, for some reason it just did not happen. Either the child was too shy or I was too poor. Or it just didn’t feel right.
My daughter says her little girl wants to play with friends everyday, go to school, learn her abc’s.
So she gives me a call on my cell and I happen to be in the car, in the back seat, son # 2 driving, son #3 in the passenger seat, and son #1 in the back as well. The call comes on over the speaker phone in the car, and the boys all laugh–“tell Ollie (her 2 and 1/2 yr old) that family are her friends, tell her that her sister is her friend!”
Yea, those are the things I told my kids. I often told them that their brothers were their friends, that they picked them out before they were born. They chose to be in this family.
An hour later we returned to my home, after shopping at Costco and Sports Authority. And I found the boys in the office, the computers all displaying the same game, and they were “playing”. I laughed at them and said, “so you guys have your friends over.”
It is a mother’s feeling of accomplishment when her kids get along. Even better if they say they are friends. Even better yet if they are faithful. It brings calm to a mother’s heart. Best to enjoy those days, and not get too fretful when there is bickering. There will always be days when it feels like we are all rats in a cage, stepping on each other’s tale. Gotta remember that.
Preschool? I suggested some play days to start with.
