Disaster preparedness is something I’ve been doing for at least 35 years. I’m not a prepper, but Mormons have always been storing a year’s supply of food and survival items. I remember getting pails and pails of wheat with my mom when I was a little girl. I don’t remember eating it though.
I’m a little apprehensive right now, because I just dumped the water out of my giant storage barrels. It was time to change it out. But I haven’t re-filled them yet. And I read that book, Visions of Glory about the last days. I do have wheat, lots of it. And I grind it occasionally to make whole wheat bread or banana bread or bran muffins with brown sugar. A few years ago I bought some emergency food packed in white pails. I’m not sure what’s really in there.
I signed up for a cool course though — offered through Coursera.org and the University of Pittsburgh. It’s one of those massive online open courses (moocs). That means it’s free and online and open to anyone. You can still add the class and get excited to be prepared. That’s what I’m doing. Funny thing, but my daughter texted me today and said she just found this great course on disaster preparedness and we should sign up for it together!  I told her, “I already signed up a week ago.” Great minds think alike. đŸ™‚
Here’s the link and a video about the course. If you haven’t tried open online learning — this may be the one. This course is supposed to teach you how survive when everything falls apart. Which happens sometimes. My granny lived through the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. That’s a photo from it.
